Heru Welcomes Bamsoet and Alberto Longo to Discuss Formula E

Central Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) Chairman, Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) together with Formula E Co- Founder and Chief Championship Officer, Alberto Longo met Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono at City Hall, Tuesday (3/14).

The meeting discussed the 2023 Formula E electric car racing event which would be held using a business to business (B2B) scheme without using the State Budget (APBN)/City Budget (APBD).

"Mr. Alberto, Mr. Bamsoet, and Ananda Mikola conveyed the agenda for Formula E activities regarding this activity as usual business to business and they understood that this was between Jakpro and Formula E," he expressed.

The same statement also came from Bamsoet that, according to the President's direction, this event would not use APBN or APBD but with a B2B scheme. He asked for assistance from the Attorney General's Office in order to prevent problems in the future.

"I agree with the Governor, we start from zero. Jakpro, I also asked the Attorney General's Office to provide assistance. Planning is B2B, business to business. This is sports tourism, that's the point," stated Bamsoet.

For the Formula E 2024, it would most likely no longer use the Ancol circuit but the inner-city street circuit. Despite not yet confirmed, potential highway circuits such as Jalan Sudirman.

"This is still under discussion," he continued.

Then Alberto Longo said, his arrival met the Acting Governor to confirm this year's Formula E race would be held on June 4 and 5 2023.

He was enthusiastic, as last year's Formula E made Indonesia one of the countries with the largest number of Formula E fans globally.

"This race is watched by five to eight million people live on Indonesian television. It's a very important market for us today," he stressed.

This year's electric car race is set to be held twice, meaning it will have two races in the same week. Hopefully, more people would come like last year's event when 62,000 people came to witness the event first hand.

"This year, we're targeting 75,000 people to come to watch every day. It means that in one week, we hope that 150,000 people will come, we'll see. But, we will be ready for the next June race," he stated.
